Langtang Region

Langtang Region lies to the north of the Kathmandu valley bordering the Tibet. Langtang is protected as Langtang National Park where the area is covered with 25% of the forest. Tamang and Sherpa are the major inhabitants of the Langtang region. The Gosaikunda Lake situated in the Langtang National Park and many vegetation, wildlife are the attractions of the trekking in Langtang region.

Langtang region offers the spectacular scenery of the nature and many Himalayas. However, the region is adventurous trekking destination with less tourist visitors. To the west of Langtang is Ganesh Himal with a range of 6000m to 7000m. The main ethnic groups living here are Sherpas and Tamang. The forests in the region have temperate and sub-alpine vegetation. Wildlife includes migratory birds, deer, monkeys, Red panda, Black bear, Himalayan Thar, Lophophorus and pika.

The best time for trekking in Langtang is spring and autumn. Most of the trekking routes in Helambu and Langtang are well served with teahouse making independent trekking quite possible. But, there are no such facilities in the Ganesh Himal area or Ganja La area. The Special Himalayan Langtang valley, a narrow valley that lies just south of the Tibetan border which is well known for Himalayan adventure and small easy trek. To the north, the valley is bounded between the main Himalayan range and a bit of lower range of snowy peaks to the south. The mountain Langtang Lirung (7250m) direct the valley to the  north; Gang Chhenpo (6390m) and Naya Kangri (5850m) lie to the south following Dorje Lakpa (6970m) to protect valley to the east.
