Dolpo Region Trek

Dolpo region trekking offers a chance to experience a true wilderness and the traditional Tibetan way of life. The region is a secluded, beautiful part of Nepal and is known for its pristine mountain scenery. Aside from its natural beauty, the Dolpo region also offers a rich cultural experience. The people are largely of Tibetan descent, with a unique dialect. Most are fans of the Bon-Po religion. In addition to its natural splendor, the region is home to a variety of elusive wildlife. You can also see ancient monasteries. These Buddhist structures are located in high mountains.
In fact, this is the highest inhabited area in Nepal. In order to explore the region, you'll need a special trekking permit from the Tourism board.

Trekking in the region requires a camping trek and porters to carry your gear. Traditionally, Dolpo is the home of nomadic people. Generally, they follow the pre-Buddhist Bon religion. However, they are also known for their Nyingmapa scholars. The region is surrounded by several peaks, including Churen Himal and Dhaulagiri. They are the highest peaks in Nepal.

The best time to visit the region is during spring or summer, when the weather is clear and the views are beautiful. But do keep in mind that snowfall can make trekking difficult. Depending on your schedule, you can choose from a number of treks. For example, a Dolpo to Jomsom trek is a 3-to-4-week trek that starts at Phoksundo Lake.
