Helambu Trek Trip Description

Short and easy Trekking in Helambu lies to the north of Kathmandu and offers the nearest experience of Sherpa culture without having to go to the Everest region. The Sherpa village of TarkeGyang that forms the focus of Helambu is a charming enclave of farmers and yak herders. The trip starts with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Sundarijal which is only an hour drive. The trail takes you through Malemchi, the site of a mega project to bring drinking water to Kathmandu via a series of tunnels. Helambu provides an instant Himalayan trek for those with limited time.

Best and nice Helambu Trek starts with a scenic drive through the Nepal Himalaya countryside to Sundarijal. The most accessible of all trekking regions, Helambu offers a low altitude, distinctly enjoyable walk. In Tamang and Sherpa village meet friendly and hospitable people with strong family and cultural ties. This trek provides an instant Himalayan trek for those with limited time. The trek is an easy and enjoyable trip conducted at the average altitude of 3500m.

The Helambu Trek takes you through Tharepati to Tarke Gyang, where a choice of trails up. However we go along the south ridge through Sermathang, down to the river at Melamchi, the site of a mega project to bring drinking water to Kathmandu a series of tunnels. The Helambu Trek ends with a drive down to Kathmandu, after night stay at Melamchi Bridge Bazaar. The most important benefit of this trek is that the area is less crowded and free from noise with the comparison to the Annapurna trek or some parts of the Everest trek.

First we make to welcome Mt, Everest Nepal Himalayan country of Nepal. Upon your arrival at the Tribhuvan international airport our representative welcomes you and assists to transfer in your hotel in Kathmandu. And you will have to make rest day in kathmandu make permit day and you can look round in kathmandu valley. After time to get refreshed, evening you will meet and transfer for welcome dinner in Nepal culture restaurant in the heart of Kathmandu and briefing about your trip and over night at Hotel.

Drive from Kathmandu by car / van, you will reach to Sundarijal, the starting point of the trek. As you arrive Sundarijal, you can observe Shivapuri watershed and Wild life Reserve there.The trail leads up to the concrete steps beside the pipeline which supply drinking water for the valley. Finally, we leave the pipeline from near the dam. We then reach Mulkharka, sprawling up the ridge. There you can take some time to spend in the convenient tea shops, and to enjoy the nice view back over the Kathmandu valley. We then continue walking to Chisopani 2300m. from where stunning mountains' view can be seen. We walk 4/5 hours walking today and stay at Chosopani overnight at Tea house hotel.

The trail leads down to Pati Bhanjyang , a small fine village. After reaching Pati Bhanjyang, the trail leads up and downs to the village called Gul Bhanjyang. Then the trails climbs up to 2620m./8646ft. and again descents along the rocky path to Kutumsang (2470m. today then stay there overnight Tea house hotel.

Following a ridge line the trails continues via lightly populated forest to Magen Goth from where view of Makalu, Langtang and Gosaikund peak is stunning and finally reaching to Tharepati (3490m.The trails to Gosaikund branches off north - west from here. Stay there overnight Tea house hotel.

The trails rapidly descend down a ravine through small Sherpa village of Malemchigaon with nice lodges and fine old and artistic Gompas. The trail again descends leaving the village and crossing Malemchi Khola by a bridge and making the long climb up the other side of the valley to Tarke Gyang 2620m. which is the largest village in Helambu. Stay there overnight tea house hotel.

As we leave Sermathang the trail then continues to descent to Dubhochaur and then again steeply down to Malemchi Bazar (830m. we find our Car/Van will be waiting for us. Drive 4 hours to Kathamandu then stay at hotel Marshyangdi overnight. In the evening, you are cordially invited to a farewell dinner where you will experience typical Nepali food and cultural entertainment, courtesy of Nepal Alternative Treks.
