Overview And Highlights

Trekking in the Himalayas, especially in the iconic Mt. Everest region, has transformed over the years, offering a unique blend of adventure and modern convenience for tourists seeking a memorable experience. While the trek in Everest is by no means easy, lasting for a challenging 9 days, the journey has evolved since the bygone era of 1965 or 1972.

In the past, many trekkers began their Everest adventure from Lamsangu or Jiri, but today, the landscape has shifted. Camping treks, once popular, have become a rarity, overshadowed by the convenience of Tea Houses. The shift in livelihoods is evident, with locals now working in hotels instead of tending to fields as farmers.

Nepal's development is evident in the expanding network of roads and the presence of vehicles in previously remote areas. While this development brings positive changes, it presents challenges for trekkers seeking simplicity in their journey. Despite these challenges, the intrinsic joy of trekking lies in the profound connection with nature, making the Himalayan trek a truly extraordinary experience.

The trek is not just about reaching the destination; it's about the journey itself. The adventure is intertwined with the awe-inspiring landscapes of the Everest region, providing an enchanting backdrop for trekkers. The journey is a homage to the legendary moment when Sherpa Tenzing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary stood atop Mt. Everest, cementing the Sherpas' reputation as exceptional mountain climbers.

Sherpas are not only born mountaineers but are also celebrated for their companionship, friendliness, and hospitality. As your guides, we pledge to take you beyond the well-trodden paths, guiding you over hidden mountain passes that only we, the locals, are familiar with. In the midst of this breathtaking journey, there's even the possibility of encountering the mythical snowman.

Upon completing the Everest Base Camp trek, your adventure takes a unique turn as you conclude your journey with a helicopter rather than a return trek to Lukla. Trekking back on foot would be a strenuous endeavor, and going for a helicopter offers a swift and adventurous alternative. Soaring above the magnificent Himalayan landscapes, this aerial perspective provides a spectacular farewell to the Everest region.

Allow us to be your companions on this magical expedition, showcasing the Everest region's grandeur and secrets like only we, the custodians of this Himalayan home, can. Your adventure reaches its zenith as we navigate the majestic Everest region, bridging the gap between tradition and modernity in the heart of Nepal. This helicopter finale not only offers a seamless conclusion to your trek but also a unique and awe-inspiring way to bid adieu to the iconic landscapes that have been the backdrop to your remarkable journey.

Traveller Useful Information

The best times for a trek to Everest Base Camp with a helicopter return are spring and autumn. While you can still trek in summer and winter, the weather can be tough, so prior trekking experience is helpful. In spring (March to May), you get warm weather and stunning mountain views. Autumn (September to November) also has pleasant weather and breathtaking landscapes.

On the flip side, winter (December to February) is cold with snow, making trekking more challenging but offering beautiful views. Summer (June to August) brings rain to lower areas, though upper regions stay dry. Summer is less popular for trekking, but if you want to avoid crowds, it could be a good time to go.

For breakfast, you have a variety of options like pancakes, cornflakes, local bread, chapatti, porridge, and eggs in different styles (fried, scrambled, boiled, or as omelets). Toast, Muesli with milk, hash brown potatoes, and other items are also served.

Lunch has a diverse menu with Dhal, Bhat, and Tarkari, Tenduk Spaghetti Noodles, Thukpa, Pasta, Vegetable Curry, Potatoes, Tibetan Bread, various soups, Sherpa Stew, steaks, sandwiches, momo (dumplings), macaroni meals, vegetables, salad, pizza, snacks, desserts, and more.

Dinner is similar to lunch but may include extra soup options like tomato soup, chicken soup, mushroom soup, garlic soup, and others.

For those who aren't used to hiking, especially in the Himalayas, the Helicopter Return Everest Base Camp Trek can be tough. It involves navigating through challenging paths with hazards, requiring a daily hike of 5 to 6 hours. The terrain is rough and requires good physical and mental health. Altitude sickness is a significant risk at elevations over 4000m. The trails go through remote, mountainous, and rugged areas, demanding strong abdominal muscles to tackle obstacles.

Trekkers will face various challenges like small cliffs, rocky landscapes, meadows, deep valleys, and paths paved with boulders. These long treks can be tough, especially for those without prior experience in such conditions. The trek covers a significant distance, potentially overwhelming for first-time hikers.

You'll spend the night at a three-star hotel in Kathmandu. During the Helicopter Return on the Everest Base Camp Trek from Gorakshep, you'll mostly stay in teahouses. In Nepal, teahouse lodging is affordable, cozy, and made for tourists. Teahouses usually have basic amenities like low beds with foam mattresses, walls made of plaster or wood panels, and often just one window. Some teahouses have heaters in rooms, while others have a central burner for the night. Unlike many hotels, a few teahouses offer hot showers. Most places also have electric charging, but there might be an extra cost. In our recommended plan, we suggest double rooms because getting a single room during the busiest season could be tricky.

Altitude sickness happens when the body has trouble getting used to the low oxygen and high air pressure in high-altitude places. When oxygen levels drop around 3000 meters, many hikers and climbers feel serious mountain sickness. Symptoms of this sickness include headaches, tiredness, nausea, difficulty breathing, dizziness, trouble sleeping, loss of appetite, and more. Before starting the Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter Return, remember these tips to avoid altitude sickness:

  1. Drink enough water while hiking and skip alcohol as it can make you lose fluids.

  2. Eat a healthy diet throughout the trip.

  3. Bring Diamox, the best medicine for altitude sickness, with you on the hike.

  4. Take your time when going up to higher places; walk carefully and slowly.

  5. Before going above 3,000 meters, get used to the altitude properly.

  6. If you see any signs of altitude sickness, either stop right away or go down to a lower place.

  7. Staying clean can also help prevent altitude sickness.
